Effective Ways to Get Relief for Sciatic Pain

Sciatic pain is the acute pain that starts at the pelvis and radiates right down both legs. The sciatic nerve is the longest and thickest nerve in the body; it runs from the bottom of the spine down both legs to the feet. Without this nerve you wouldn’t be able to feel sensation in your legs. It is because of the biological nature of the sciatic nerve that sciatic pain constitutes an itchiness, numbness and slow pain in the legs. It is very possible to find relief for sciatic pain; no person deserves to endure such soreness. Sciatic pain is often caused by sitting or standing for long periods of time, lifting weights and certain moves that strain the body.

Exercise those leg and back muscles with hamstring exercises. Hamstring exercises are pretty simple once you get the hang of it. You lie on your back and hold the back of your thigh. Gently you then proceed to lift your entire leg, holding it at a 90 degree angle with the ground. This stretching will get rid of any numbness and is one of the best forms of nerve pain treatment.

The hamstring exercise is not the only one and certainly not the best. There is the psoas stretch that involves lying on your back, bending your knees and then holding them at your chest. This exercise gets rid of the itch or numbness with very little of your conscious effort.

Acupuncture is a type of therapy whereby slender needles are pressed into the skin pores of the affected areas. With this form of treatment you consciously improve blood circulation and inevitably relieve any tension pains imbedded in the sciatic nerve.

Ice packs can be used as an effective form of sciatic nerve pain treatment. Take your ice packs and rub them over the affected areas gently. The next thing you should do is apply a heat pack for the same duration of time. It is way better to use both because the changes in temperature help to optimize temperatures in the back.

A massage is worth it sometimes, especially if you want to release acute pain and replace it with good feelings. Massage therapy is good because it triggers the release of endorphins, feel good hormones. When these endorphins have circulated around the body you will start to notice how the pain begins to go away.

Last of all I suggest medications like naproxin. Naproxin is an anti-inflammation drug that gets rid of any swellings. But injections work faster with epidural steroid injections’ speedy effect.
