Build Stronger Concentration Skills

When we are children, we are naturally creative and as we focus on one thing, we develop concentration skills that allow us to focus on one thing for long periods of time. However, as we grow and age, those efforts and abilities begin to fade away. We find ourselves not wanting to be artistic, to draw or paint and we certainly aren’t open to having that work criticized by others when we do get creative.

We allow what other people, and society in general, will think of our attempts dictate what we do. Once this process begins, we soon are finding ourselves trying to be all things to all people and our ability to focus on just one thing at a time suffers as a result. However, by using your hands to stimulate your brain, you will find yourself being able to enjoy painting and drawing again for the pleasure of painting and drawing. You will also find yourself focusing on just one activity rather than on several different things at one time.

Doodling on the side of your paper while you are deep in thought is a good start. While you focus your on only one activity you’ll refine your concentration skills. The idea is to keep your hands moving at all times, maybe try doodling if you can’t think of anything to write at first.

As new information comes to your mind you can go back to writing it all down. Make a conscious effort during this process to keep your brain stimulated. For example knitting, sewing, or weaving. You can complete great products with your hands this way as well as offer your brain the additional stimulation that it can benefit from.

Taking a stroll through your local craft store will afford you many excellent ideas at a hobby that would help you with this process and be enjoyable, as well. There will be something at the local craft store that will appeal to you. The main thing is that you will be taking steps to stimulate your brain and regain the ability to focus. Many people also use these methods that stimulate the brain as a means of releasing tension and relaxing.

The benefits to your brain, your ability to focus, your stress level and your overall well-being will be well worth the effort that you put in. Many people have found that, while they were focusing on these busy hand activities they came up with some fantastic ideas. It just goes to show how your concentration skills and focusing can be improved with this method. Rather than fighting scattered thoughts and an inability to focus, you will be able to let go of the constant multi-tasking and enjoy being able to focus on just one thing.
