A Fantasy Basketball Beast Is Born

Jason Jordan | January 17, 2010

Every year, a season of basketball goes by and there’s a player I wish I’d picked up from the free agent pool earlier in the year. These are players who enter the season with no expectations, and finish them as established fantasy stars.

It’s even more frustrating when you’ve been watching them the entire time, only to have missed out on the chance to own them because you were afraid to drop someone else that you dropped a few days later.

These players emerge every year. Some of them in recent years have included Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins, Troy Murphy, and many more. Regardless, all we can do is move forward to try to spot the next sleeper. Who wins the crown this year so far?

In my mind, it isn’t much of a contest this season. I believe that Kevin Love has been the player to stand above the rest of the pack. His stats are invaluable to many fantasy teams in leagues around the world.

Kevin Love has simply been phenomenal in Minnesota. No one saw this coming, at least not this quickly and not to such an extent. As the player with the second highest rebounding average in the league, his numbers are exceptional. He’s also a great scorer and a solid shooter too.

On top of this, he makes most of his free throws with a percentage near 81%. As if this wasn’t already enough to love, he also shoots threes.

There are only a few centers in the NBA who shoot three pointers, and their contributions are invaluable to teams. One more great element of Love is the fact that he averages over a steal per game, also a rarity at the position.

I don’t think it’d be realistic to say that anyone saw this coming. He’s a legitimate top 30 player so far this year, despite the fact that he was drafted near the end of most drafts, if at all.

As of now, no player has hit the fantasy radar with the impact that Kevin Love has. It should be really interesting to see where he takes his game from here.

This author additionally frequently blogs about the lumbar support pillows and back support pillow reviews.

There are tons of jump higher training programs out there but the chances of finding one that would best suit your needs is often slim. There might only be a few good training programs but you it is always possible to find the one that can best help you increase the height of your vertical leap.

You know that you have a good jump higher program on your hands when it uses a well rounded or an all around approach. You have to remember that it takes more than just a single aspect to give significant improvements in your jumping abilities. To help ensure that you will be getting the kind of results that you have been hoping form, try to select a system or program that includes a good range of effective methods so you can get the most out of the different workouts you do in each training session.

Of course, a jump higher program will not be one without having any jumping exercise. You would also need a training guide or manual that covers flexibility and resistance training. Experts believe that the best way to achieve this is through plyometric workouts so it is best that you find yourself a program that includes such workouts and teaches you how to properly do such workouts. By doing so, you can be assured that you will be able to effectively receive the kind of training you need.

Adding inches to your vertical leap is no joke nor is it just another workout thing. Reasons Foot Braces Are Crucial If You’re Into High Impact Sports

Darren Haynes | December 21, 2009

In the past, athletes, sports professionals as well as those recuperating from ankle injuries tape their ankles up. This a time consuming process and requires the expertise of a medical professional. These days there are orthodontic braces available that not only provide superior support for your ankle, it is also a lot easier to put on.

You will find these type of ankle braces available in any good health and sporting stores for a reasonable price. There are quite a few different styles available, each designed for specific purpose.

Most of the big brands will offer ankle braces that are durable, light-weight and comfortable. For sporting braces, the general design comes with two thin plastic plates on each side of your ankle that go as high up as your lower leg, to provide stability in side to side movement (this is the most common form of ankle injury). The plates are held together by an elastic material that encompasses your foot.

For more high impact type sports, you will notice many players wearing protective braces. The Aircast brace as well as the ASO ankle brace are of the most popular amongst serious sports people. The prices of these can range from very affordable (under $100) to expensive ($400) where the upper range comes with additional features such as shock pads.

As there are so many types of ankle braces available, how do you pick the one that’s right for you? Here’s a list of things to consider.

The right ankle cast will depend on what sort of injuries you’ve had in the past, and it might be a good idea to check with your orthodontist first as he or she will probably recommend the best protective solution for you. Remember that there different braces for different purposes, so there’s no point in you getting one that does not fit your needs.

The next factor to think about is whether you’ll be requiring a brace as a preventative measure or vigorous sporting activities. If you’re only going to be doing some brisk walking or jogging, chances are you might only need a light weight brace offering minimal support rather than the sporting braces that offer a host of other features such as shock absorption.

The only way to really select the right model is to go down to the shop and actually test each one out. You might be required to bring along a new pair of socks to put on before trying out the brace due to hygiene reasons.

A final word of caution: after you get your brace and put it on, give yourself a few days to get accustomed to it as initially it might feel a little uncomfortable. At the same time, go slow and don’t over-exert yourself in your sporting activity until you get a feel for the amount of support you’re going to get from the ankle brace.

You will be able to find much more recommendations regarding the Aircast ankle brace within the author’s website.

Prevent Serious Ankle Injuries By Using A Sports Brace

Janine Weathers | December 20, 2009

If you’re a sports person, you would have experienced at least one case of an ankle sprain in your sporting life. Ankles muscles are one of the hardest muscles to develop strength with hence they’re the most susceptible to twists and injuries.

Stronger ankles simply means that you will be a lot less likely to encounter injuries down the road, and even if you do the damage will be less severe. This would result in faster recovery times also.

Certain types of sports are more prone to ankle sprains, volleyball, soccer, tennis and basketball are all high up on that list. These sports require either jumping or very quick directional changes, and if your ankles are not strong enough to handle the body’s momentum, you might end up tearing a ligament in your lower leg.

To help add support to the ankles, you will find that most people who have suffered from injuries in the past tend to tape up their ankles before a match. The tape can provided much needed additional support for people with injury-prone ankles. If you search on “YouTube”, you will find many great example video guides on how to tape your ankle properly.

Although ankle tape is used widely nowadays by amateurs as well as professional athletes, sporting and rehab products have been coming out in the market that will soon phase it out. The problem with tape is that it can come undone or loosen as you move about. How well it holds depends on how vigorous your movements are as well as how well the tape was applied.

Enter the age of the ankle brace. There are many professional grade braces available in the market that will prevent ankle sprains and that are very comfortable to wear. They can be slipped on in seconds and will never loosen up during a sporting match.

The ankle braces such as the ASO ankle brace provides tons of additional support for your ankle without restricting your natural range of movement. The feedback from many people who have used it is that it gives them additional confidence and that their ankles feel a lot stronger with the brace on.

Foot supports such as the Aircast ankle braces are important but don’t forget that you will need to also do ankle strengthening exercises such as heel lifts and rope skipping (just to name a few). Don’t only rely on the foot supports alone for your injury prevention. This is especially true if you’re serious about your sport because once you have pulled a ligament, your ankle will never be the same again.

In any basketball game, it is always a thrill to see players who are able to deliver the ball straight to the basket through spectacular dunks. It is just like seeing volleyball players being able to fly high to deliver powerful spikes. However, when you are relatively shorter than the other players, it is easy to believe that you will never be able to execute a dunk or spike just like the tall players do. The Los Angeles Lakers Look to Repeat

Aaron Harden | December 14, 2009

The L.A. Lakers won another NBA championship in 09′. This proved to be extra special most will say for Kobe Bryant because this is first championship since 02′ – more importantly the first without Shaquille O’Neal.

Kobe Bryant proved that the Los Angeles Lakers didn’t need Shaquille O’Neal to win an NBA title. He did have the help of Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom (two big men), but they’re not Shaquille O’Neal in his prime.

It should also be noted that the only significant player the Lakers have lost is Trevor Ariza. While Ariza was a valuable role player in Los Angeles, he’s not one of the team’s stars, so all indicators would point to the notion that they should be okay without him.

Much of the Lakers’ success last year should be attributed to a lot more than just Kobe himself. This was a team effort through and through.

Andrew Bynum needs to have a break out year this season because he has contributed little in his career thus far. Bynum has improved his scoring average every year he has been in the league but can’t stay healthy. Bynum is a good talent; he has size and has shown signs of having the potential to be a great big man.

After a wildly successful season, one has to wonder if the Lakers can do this again. Kobe Bryant will turn 32 this season, still young enough to play some very effective basketball.

It’s hard to repeat as champions in professional sports because players get hurt and more trades happen now then ever before. The Lakers still have Kobe Bryant and he is playing at an elite level.

Having said that, I’d peg the Lakers as the favorite but wouldn’t expect them to dominate. It’s definitely up for grabs, but Artest makes this powerhouse even stronger. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do with Kobe.

Some Tips on Increasing your Vertical Jump

Bart Icles | December 12, 2009

Seeing basketball players fly high into the air is always a spectacular sight. You might even be so impressed with how high professional basketball players can jump you might have wished at least once in your life that you can have a vertical jumping ability like they do. It is always quite possible for you to increase the height of your vertical jump. High vertical jumping ability is not always a case of genetics and inborn athleticism. This valuable athletic ability can always be learned.

So how does one go about increasing the height of his or her vertical jump? Achieving a higher vertical leap is not just brought about by a single factor but it is a product of a combination of factors. What you need is to find a proper jump training program, observe a well-balanced diet, develop good work ethics, and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Combine all these factors together and you can easily achieve jaw dropping vertical leaps.

If you want to see significant improvements in your vertical leap, you will need to get your hands on an effective jump higher training program. You know you have the right kind of training system or program when you find one that has different workouts aimed at increasing not only your strength but your speed and explosiveness as well. You know you have a good training program when it is able to help you better understand that the height of your jump is determined by the amount of force you are able to exert on the ground, and how quickly you are able to exert this amount of force.

Another factor you will need to consider is your health and fitness level. Unless you are truly fit and healthy, it will always be quite difficult for you to achieve a higher vertical jump. Jumping higher is also influenced by how healthy you are so make sure that you eat well-balanced meals at regular intervals, get enough rest, and observe a healthy lifestyle.

Most people also tend to overlook the role played by good work ethics on learning how to jump higher. Without dedication and commitment, you cannot expect yourself to learn how to increase your vertical jump in a short span of time. Jumping higher can mean undergoing intense training so before you attempt to pursue a jump higher program, better check if you are dedicated and committed to your goal.

Plyometric Training For Volleyball

Ben Mihajlov | December 10, 2009

Plyometric training is one of the most under appreciated forms of exercise. Since this kind of training is relatively unknown, athletes can have a great advantage over their competitors who do not use plyometric training. This is one of the very few exercise programs that are very effective in increasing your speed and explosiveness in movement. Even non competitive athletes can benefit from plyometric training exercise program.

Plyometric training not only develops muscle strength, but speed and explosiveness in the jumping exercises. Weight lifting will strengthen your muscles, but it does very little in developing the quick twitch muscles needed for explosiveness and quickness. Plyometric exercises also develops other muscles besides the legs needed to jump higher.

Plyometric training exercises typically assist in the developing of quick twitch muscle fibers, which are important for explosive power and quickness. Even though the novice athlete do not use plyometric exercises, the competitive athletes have gained tremendous advantages with plyometric workouts.

There is a variety of exercises you can perform, jumping on and off an sturdy object is one example. This exercise can be repeated over and over again, but the purpose is to develop explosive power, and not endurance. Therefore, each rep or jump should attempt to jump as high as you can. As soon as your jump max is starting to decline because of fatigue, it is time to stop that exercise.

Adjusting the plyometric exercise workout is necessary according to your physical ability or goals. As a novice athlete, your workout can be less intense with less reps. But if you desire to get the full benefit from plyometric training, each rep should be done at maximum effort and focused intensity.

Pay attention to your body when you exercise. If you begin to experience achy knees or sore muscles, take a break. By allowing your body to recuperate, your plyometric training will more likely be safe and effective.

If you desire to learn how to jump higher, plyometrics is a must. If you work on plyometric exercises, you will drastically increase your vertical jump.

Learn How To Jump Higher

Benjamin Mihajlov | December 9, 2009

If you really want to jump higher then you have to become more knowledgeable about the subject. Better vertical jumps means your game can improve dramatically in whatever sport you play. However, it doesn’t take an athlete to work on these exercises. To be honest, as long as you want to build leg strength and power, we suggest everyone giving it a try.

Any jump training program must include strength building. Even though there is many different ways to increase strength, increased jumping abilities is usually the result. Your workouts should focus on weight training specifically for the lower part of your body.

If you can train your muscles correctly, it all starts with understanding how they work. If you do this you’ll be able to get more power out of your legs and gain jumping abilities.

A common way to get the body in shape and build some strength through running or biking. If you want to accelerate your strength, weight training is a must. Squats, calf raises, and lunges are some exercises to add to your program. Depending on your fitness level, you may want to start at home doing simple exercises with your legs without weights.

We do suggest you go out and find someone that can help you. It doesn’t have to be a difficult transition, but it’s a good idea to have some help. If you can get someone, then you’ll be able to stay free of injury and build the leg strength you desire without harm. If you can’t find anyone, then make sure your exercises are fit for a solo session.

It is important to evaluate your approach in your jumping higher exercises. To enhance the benefits of your training, using a multi-faceted approach will result in greater overall improvement. For example, squats develops a variety of muscle groups.

Even though the exercising is important, it’s not the only thing that will help you jump higher. A good diet is definitely something that will compensate your exercising. The nutrients that go into your body can bring on massive gains when you actually do the exercises. Plus it’s a great way to take care of yourself.

Another important factor is understanding plyometrics. This is your jump training and if you don’t know what it is you won’t get the same results. So make sure the program you choose explain everything about it.

Proper jumping techniques can also increase your vertical. People can do any exercise, but without the proper form you won’t get the results you desire. In fact, by fixing your form alone, you can easily gain two to four inches on your jumping.

Learning to increase your vertical is simple if you know what to do. The challenge comes in doing them consistently and diligently. Jumping higher is not totally a matter of working more, but working more on the right techniques. Your jump training program must be well rounded, include many factors mentioned above to be effective. The Jump Manual has a well designed program to accomplish all your goals effectively.
