Plymouth Chiropractor Kevin Kelly graduated having a Doctor of Chiropractic in 1986, and works in both the NHS also in private practice. He was the first UK and Plymouth Chiropractor to have a Sports Sciences degree & is NEBOSH trained. Mr. Kelly treats a variety of problems in individual One- to-one sessions, and besides a great experience in treating more common disorders is quite experienced in treating disc prolapses and whiplash injuries. Mr. Kelly’s philosophy is usually to treat his patients in the way he’d want to be taken care of himself. He has successfully dealt with 1000s of patients.

Chiropractic is a profession which focuses on the diagnosis plus cure for muscle and joint disorders and injuries. One common example is a low back sprain causing low back pain and Sciatica. Treatment targets manipulative and mobilizing solutions to reestablish normal joint/tissue function. Chiropractic was developed at the turn of the last century and because of its amazing advantages and is the largest primary health care profession under western culture next to medicine along with dentistry. Chiropractors like doctors in addition to dentists are statutorily registered. All Plymouth Chiropractors must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council to operate in the United Kingdom. Plymouth chiropractor Kevin Kelly has been registered together with the GCC since its inception.

Lower back pain is not a condition, but it is a symptom. It has numerous names such as lumbago, rheumatism, slipped disc. It often causes leg pain, Sciatica (inflammation of the sciatic nerve), plus in severe cases can cause damage which requires surgery. With a history of back pain your spine gradually becomes unstable, with instances of back pain getting progressively worse as time pass by.

Chiropractic treatment continues to be scientifically shown to reduce the severity of lower back pain. The treatment rationale Plymouth Chiropractor, Kevin Kelly uses has been developed over the last 20 years.

Chiropractic Care- Relief For Upper Back Pain

Carissa Hang DC | January 22, 2011

Some of us may occasionally have discomfort in the upper back. The spine is made up of 24 vertebrae and the thoracic spine (upper back) is 12 of these bones. The thoracic spine is not as flexible as the cervical spine (neck) and lumbar spine (lower back). Because this section of the spinal column has a great deal of stability and only limited movement, there is generally little risk of injury or degeneration in the upper back.

Because of little motion and a great deal of stability throughout the upper back (thoracic spine), this section of the spine does not tend to develop common spinal disorders, such as a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, or spinal instability. These conditions can cause upper back pain but are exceedingly rare in the upper back.

What are some common causes of upper back pain? There seem to be two main groups of discomfort coming from this region. One general group is joint dysfunction. The other is classified as muscular irritation. In the case of joint dysfunction, this generally involves the state of the bone in the spinal column. The spine consists of many small bones and the soft tissues in between. Discomfort can result when these joints are misaligned and function is compromised.

The other common cause of discomfort in the upper back has to do with the soft tissues. The soft tissues hold the vertebrae together and maintain the flexibility of the spinal column. Pain can result from over exerting this area or from injury. Such examples include working at the computer for extended period of time or being in an auto accident. There are a few cases which are less common in the upper back. Conditions such as fractures, arthritis, herniated disc, and osteoporosis can be more severe situations.

Some of the typical treatments for upper back pain are stretches, exercises, massage therapy, and chiropractic treatment. Exercises include a lot of stretching to lengthen the contracted muscle and loosen the tight knots. Chiropractic manipulation may be used to help straighten the misaligned spine to provide better joint mobility and release stress.

Treating Neck Pain The Natural Way

Myrtle Madison | September 17, 2010

Neck pain is a common medical problem which is also called the cervical pain. Pain in the neck can be caused by injury, stress, and other ailments.

How A Chiropractor Works On Neck Pain

The primary task of a chiropractor is to identify the actual causes of the patient’s neck pain. He may help a patient go back to his regular activities quickly so that he can enjoy his daily life without pain.

Chiropractic Means Of Treating Neck Pain

Trigger Point Therapy – The chiropractor determines particular painful areas on a muscle. Then using his fingers, he puts direct pressure on these points to relieve the tension.

Flexion-Distraction Method – In this method, a table is used to bring back the neck’s normal physiological range of motion. It is a gentle adjusting method working with the body’s natural design to aid it in healing properly and naturally.

Moreover, no pain should be expected from this procedure. The chiropractor twists and stretches the neck while adding pressure to various regions of the neck.

Ultrasound – Through applying this method, the sound waves produce a mild heat which goes deep to the tissues. Ultrasound enhances the blood circulation, thus, the muscle pain, bulging, and stiffness decrease.

Inferential Electrical Stimulation – This uses a low frequency electrical current to induce the muscles and control acute and long-term pain. The electrical current produces heat to improve mobility, and reduce pain and rigidity. Furthermore, sending electrical current to the affected area can also stimulate the body’s production of natural pain killers.

Prevention Of Probable Causes Of Neck Pain

Chiropractors encourage prevention to enhance the overall health of the body. For instance, doing measures like maintaining a good posture and using good mechanics to prevent body pain will always be a great move to obtain a good health. Chiropractors generally look at the whole person and his lifestyle, not just the pain; because they are more concerned with self-care and prevention as a way to have a good health.

Is A Chiropractor A Great Choice?

Randy Goodson | January 29, 2010

Unknown

Traditional medical treatment will involve one or more, or facets of the three main ways to confront an illness, including cutting, burning or poisoning it. With one of those three being the most preferred way to approach any particular disease, chiropractic offers a different way. Due to the fact that nearly all patients walk out without any significant injury or recovery time, they fall under suspicion with many people. The main goal of chiropractic is to put you in a state of complete health without introducing any harmful chemicals or disrupting the tissues of your body as primary treatments, allowing the body to heal itself.

As more and more people are healed by chiropractic treatment, the ranks of its satisfied customers grows to irrefutable numbers and demands the attention of the entire medical community.

The satisfaction of being treated by a form of medicine that doesn’t involve injuring you in some way is enormous, so much so that many people don’t even mind that they don’t know exactly how it works. Even though there are more chiropractors than there are general practitioners, it is still a very in demand type of medical field. Many other forms of treatment require the patient to use drugs, but chiropractic treatment is drug free which draws an even larger audience.

What make up chiropractic?

The easiest way to explain what the practice is, is to look at its definition which is comprised of Greek words that translate into “practice of the hands”. One image that comes to mind may be some martial art or judo throw, but chiropractic medicine is far more safe and appealing to clients than that.

Sometimes joints will become rigid and lose range of motion, so a chiropractor will forcefully move the joint in order to align it appropriately to free up nerve signals from the spine. These adjustments are called “manipulations” and are designed and intended to position the bones in a joint at the correct locations.

Is A Chiropractor A Normal MD?

Any prospective medical professional has to take a required number of classes ranging from anatomy and physiology to more scrutinizing biology classes. The number of laboratory, clinical and classroom hours for each chiropractor is 4200 hours. Any medical professional is a demanding course of study and seeking a doctorate degree after the undergraduate studies are completed, if no different, given that they are required to pass many of the same types of exams, tests and internships that any other doctor in any other medical field would take.

I guess the biggest difference would be the application of the material learned. Most doctors are trained in pharmacology and the chiropractors are trained in spine health.

Missoula Chiropractor: Your Health-The Road to Wellness. Article #2 Feet

Dr. Shaun Stuto | January 25, 2010

As a health and wellness clinic, Transformation Chiropractic Missoula MT works with patients on their overall wellness. Wellness is scalable to the individual and every patient starts somewhere. Pain patients make up a modest percentage of the patient population. There are many health problems that result in pain in different parts of the body. And there are so many causes for them. Challenges like back pain and headaches,as you will learn in this article, may be occurring from an often overlooked part of the body, the feet.

The foot is a great masterpiece from nature. Aside from enabling you to walk upright, it also supports your weight and plays a role in your balance and posture. The foot has a specialized design, with 26 bones and 33 joints. Though compact is size, it is a very complex system, and aside from bones, they also have a network of tendons, muscles and blood vessels.

The foot is designed to withstand a lot of pressure, especially when walking and running. As we walk, the foot absorbs the shock as it hits the ground. With the network of tendons and muscles, the impact should be negligible. If the foot is dysfunctional, the cushioning properties get weaker and disperse the impact forces to other bones and organs in your body.

If the foot dysfunction continues, you might begin to experience chronic pains in those other previously mentioned parts of the body. Walking could become a literal pain in the back. If left unattended, this could result in many complications. Is the logical answer a cortisone injection in the back to numb the pain? How about an aspiring to make the headache go away? Seems kind of like pulling the batteries out of the smoke detector doesn’t it? Just because the beeping is gone doesn’t change the fact that the house is on fire.

Back pain is mostly caused by improper posture putting stress on the spinal column. A foot disorder like flat footedness can also be a major cause of back pain. If you have flat feet, your feet will bear excess weight in places that it was simply not designed for. This would decrease its shock absorption abilities. And this finally leads to the shock travelling up to your spinal column, where it may put it out of alignment or create a subluxation. The opposite of flat footedness, highly-arched but rigid feet, can also contribute to the pain in your back by resisting too little shock. With little resistance, the shock can travel upwards reaching your back, your neck, and even your head.

With effects like these, it is important to start caring for our feet now with or without pain. It may seem that foot problems occur naturally and go away, but that is far from the truth. And as we grow older, the symptoms of these minor foot problems will likely worsen. When this happens, correction becomes much more complicated.

Transformation Chiropractic Missoula MT can help you with problems like these. They offer chiropractic services that can take care of neck pain, headaches, back pain, and foot pains. More importantly, they will help you to get beyond your pain so you can truly live a life of abundance. They utilize Applied Kinesiology, Nero-Emotional Technique, and other techniques to assess and maximize a patients overall level of wellness.

True health is much more than a lack of symptoms; rather, it is a decision. Transformation Chiropractic of Missoula MT believes you want and deserve the finer things in life. This includes bounding energy and vibrant health. They can help you transform your body and mind and achieve outstanding health.

Transformation Chiropractic and Wellness Center Missoula MT: Experience the Difference!

Dr. Shaun Stuto | January 24, 2010

Transformation Chiropractic Missoula MT was founded by Southern California University of Health Sciences graduate Dr. Shaun Stuto. Transformation Chiropractic takes a unique approach to health. Their mission is to help patients understand that the transformation going on in their lives is either conscious and controlled or it occurs silently.

Dr. Stuto believes that the body is an intelligent and self-healing organism that responds innately to the type of care and attention that it is given. He takes a holistic approach which he considers much more than physical factors or “symptoms” when promoting overall health.

This is undoubtedly a new approach to dealing with true health in the town of Missoula – an in the state of Montana. Dr. Stuto’s belief is that the whole body is affected by underlying factors such as emotional problems, that could adversely affect a person’s physical health. His focus is helping his patients to understand the factors of health, from a wholeness perspective, that allow an individual to live life at the highest level. A popular article that Dr. Stuto has written entitled Pain is NOT Your Problem has been making the internet rounds and addresses this issue in more depth.

It is his study of Neuro Emotional Techniques and Applied Kinesiology that sets Dr. Stuto apart from other chiropractors. He does not believe that isolating a symptom does any good without looking at the structural, biochemical and emotional aspects of what’s going on in the body. This is what Applied Kinesiology is all about – an integrated approach to overall health.

It’s a refreshing way of looking at health when compared to the super-busy, overworked private practices of many physicians. The problem is that the sheer volume of patients that come and go in the average doctor’s office often prevents them from spending the kind of time and attention that patients want and may very well need to accurately diagnose the cause.

Dr. Stuto makes it his goal to spend the necessary time to ask as many questions as possible to get to the underlying cause of a problem. An average visit could go anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. Visit length is up to the patient, their goals, and their circumstances.

In order for his patients to fully embrace the holistic approach that Transformation Chiropractic espouses, Dr. Stuto considers it his duty to request that patients take an active role in their own healing. He helps them to uncover, understand and take ownership of the things that occur in their lives, whether good or bad. When you start to take ownership of everything that happens to you, your beliefs about where health comes from will change. You will now understand that thriving health and wellness comes from the inside out.

Transformation Chiropractic patients are serious about their health and they share the belief that the body, when properly fed and cared for, can regenerate and renew itself to a healthy state through an innate intelligence. Patients at Transformation Chiropractic are avid exercisers, healthy eaters and spend a lot of time working on personal development. They understand they are in control of the 2500 words per minute running through their heads that dictates who they are and what they can do. Optimal health habits such as these consciously practiced by patients at Transformation Chiropractic. There is even an online community to support one another for continued growth.

The guiding belief of Dr. Stuto is that patients must make an investment in their own health at his clinic by engaging in preventative health care and committing to the process. He enforces that they must view their health as a journey that is ongoing and not merely a destination with an end goal in mind. The reward, of course, is the improved energy and sustained vitality of optimal health, bounding energy, and abundant gratitude.

Chiropractic Care: Is It Safe?

Philip Vincent |

The safety of chiropractic is undeniably one of the most frequently asked questions of potential patients suffering from back and neck pain. Before a patient decides to try out this type therapy, they’d like to assure themselves that the treatment is safe and has no side effects. So, is chiropractic really safe? The short answer to that question is ‘yes’.

When you’ve been suffering from low back or neck pain long enough, your first thought may be to dull the pain through pain killers in order to bring your annoying condition to a manageable level. You may even have even considered surgery to alleviate the pain. However, chiropractic is a safe, non-surgical treatment that concentrates on re-aligning your spine to help dissipate your pain. This is done through several sessions with a chiropractic doctor who specializes in massaging your spine to correct the alignment and alleviate your pain.

You won’t be prescribed a dose of medications or undergo extensive surgery needing careful post operative care. In fact, there is absolutely no invasive surgery involving your spine or back region. The spinal chord is a delicate region in your body which must be attended to with precise care and skill. A doctor of chiropractic works externally on your vertebrae to bring your discs in proper alignment and reduce the pressure on your central nervous system typically caused by slipped or misaligned discs.

Chiropractic also involves the external manipulation of your muscles, joints and tendons to heal injuries to the muscles and bring relief from incessant pain. The treatment must be done be a qualified practitioner with verifiable credentials. As your spine is very sensitive to mistreatment, only an experienced practitioner should manipulate your vertebrae.

If you’re a senior adult and suffering from osteoporosis, you may want to speak to your physician before considering this option. Similarly, very young patients may also require prior consultation with a physician who may be able to advise whether chiropractic therapy would be conducive. You should always reveal your personal medical history to your doctor of chiropractic to enable your doctor to perform a thorough diagnosis of your condition and devise a suitable course of treatment.

You may experience some mild discomfort when you’re undergoing treatment for the first time. This is common as your body adjusts to the alignment of your vertebrae, just like when you exercise for the first time in awhile. You may undergo posture stabilization as part of your therapy in which case you’ll feel slightly uncomfortable at first as you start to stabilize your posture. None of these initial side effects will last and you will not suffer any permanent damage to your body when you are treated by a skilled and experienced chiropractic practitioner.

By using alternative methods of treatment, chiropractic care has gained a reputation for being a safe alternative treatment to conventional medicine and surgery. The proponents of this therapy advocate its efficacy by stressing that all treatment methods are externally conducted. Only spine, joints and muscles are manipulated to achieve the desired results.

When you choose chiropractic as your preferred solution to alleviate pain in your back and neck, you’re opting for a safe, alternative therapy that doesn’t involve surgery. Through the gentle manipulation of your spine, you’ll quickly experience relief from your pain and begin to enjoy a pain free life again.

Low Back Surgery – Money For the Surgeon Or Help For the Patient?

Michael W. Page, D.C. |

Years ago, I was an insurance adjuster. I handled claims for large farm labor companies in California and I was the worker’s compensation adjuster. When people were injured, they heard from me. I learned what happened and I paid them their disability benefits and also paid for all of their medical bills. I estimate that over the 3 1/2 years that I adjusted claims, I paid for at least 150 lower back disc surgeries. The average cost of these surgeries was $60,000. I would routinely authorize $10,000-$12,000 bills to be paid directly to the main surgeon. Some of these surgeries would last 3-4 hours and sometimes up to 8-10 hours. I had one surgeon who used to do 2 surgeries per day.

In order to perform 2 surgeries per day, office staff including nurse practitioners and physician assistants are the ones who see the patients before and after surgery. This kind of impersonal service is what is required to make $20,000 per day. At that rate, is the focus on the patient or finances of the office and surgeon?

Seeing dozens of patients with almost identical symptoms can lead a doctor who treat most of them quite similarly. Even though the surgeon has the best intentions, at the end of the day, most patients are treated similarly and often not given the individual attention they deserve. Attention must be paid to side effects, possible problems, and alternatives to such a drastic procedure as surgery.

As a result of seeing this kind of health care, I quite my job and went back to school to become a chiropractor with the aim and goal of helping people to avoid the disabling effects of failed lower back surgeries. Many never recover as promised and others are worse. Fortunately, there are a small minority who praise the surgery and report life-changing improvement. If only those numbers were higher. Unfortunately, well over 50% of all back surgeries end up as failed and lead to further problems.

A neurosurgeon once told me when I was an adjuster, that there is no such thing as a one-time surgery. All backs that undergo surgery will need further and additional surgery in the future as the operated zone of the spine becomes weakened and other areas around it are damaged over time. Thus, by doing one surgery, the surgeon is ensuring his future surgeries as most people go to the same surgeon again since the surgeon “knows my back.”

Over the past 10 years, I have helped literally hundreds avoid surgery, get out of pain, and heal their lower back pain and lumbar disc problems. Even if patients have been recommended for surgery, the majority have no fully tried alternative therapies like chiropractic to help them. Chiropractic and physical therapy can help the disc heal and if a herniation has occurred, even help it to heal and get the patient back to normal life.

The research and medical community knows that starting with the least invasive therapy first makes sense. It’s cost effective, has less side effects, and respects the best wishes of the patient. Chiropractic is gentle and has virtually no possible side effects in these types of cases.

Unfortunately, when you can make $20,000 per day the best interest of the patient and their health becomes blurred.

Discover how to avoid back surgery through natural means and avoid failed low back syndrome and catastrophic problems associated with surgery. If you’d like to learn more about how to avoid back surgery visit our website.
