The first on the list that’s crucial to getting ripped abdominals is your diet. Volumes could be stated merely about the importance of diet. What you consume will alter your energy levels, if you have sugar cravings, and if you can shed any fat at all It is difficult to measure how much harder it is to burn a thousand calories than it is to take it in. If you had the desire, you could gobble down that many calories in ten minutes, but it would take hours of moderate to high intensity workout routines to burn it off.

Be careful with how many calories you cut back within your diet though. Quantity is important, but so is quality. If you’re on a high-quality diet, it becomes difficult to eat a lot of calories at all. And forget about fasting completely. When you don’t get fuel the first thing the body does is catabolize muscle. The body is designed this way to survive, considering muscle uses up far more energy than fat to maintain. By removing the muscle the body can continue to survive on fat for long periods of time.

An easy way to get your calorie consumption in the right range is to notice what you happen to be eating and how your bodyweight is changing each week. I say week as you will find daily fluctuations in your bodyweight that may be deceptive. Optimally, you want your calorie consumption to be between 500 and 750 under maintenance level.

If you believe this change will put too much strain on you, just start changing to whole foods. The more processed a food is, the more calories are added and the more nutrients stripped away. It is through food processing that the concept of “empty calories” was started.

The next component is your workout. Activities with high caloric expenditures are your primary focus when seeking ripped abdominals. You have several options for types of exercise in or around your house. The ones you may be familiar with include running, interval sprints, rope jumping, and bodyweight exercises. There are other variations you might not have heard of, such as “turbulence training (this is more or less free weight circuit training)” and plyometric bodyweight training.

Most of these require no explanation, but for those that do I’ll give a quick idea of the purpose as well as the exercises associated with them. Turbulence training is essentially another form of High Intensity Interval Training(HIIT). Perform the weighted exercises with no rest period until your heart is pounding so hard you need to stop. At that point take a brief rest and repeat. For bodyweight exercises there are jump-squats, pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups (or almost any traditional abdominal training), burpees, mountain-climbers, shoulder presses (this variation you may either set your feet on a chair and your hands on the ground with your body at a 90 degree angle and press your body up and down with your hands, or you may do this from hand-stand position), lunges, etc. For the plyometric style the same exercises are used but more explosively. Regardless of whether pushing or pulling you’re doing it as hard as you can, your hands should come up off the ground for push-ups, and you should leap as high as you can for jumping exercises.

The final element is mindset and commitment. To get ripped abs at home, you will need that never say die attitude. You follow your diet and workout program on days you feel like it, and days you do not. The latter is what makes or breaks the quest in most cases. Work on your reasons for putting in the effort in the first place and the visuals you associate with those reasons. This will help carry you through the tough times. Ideally you’ll want a workout partner that won’t let you off the hook.

If you are indeed doing this at home, try and set up a room or area dedicated solely to working out. In doing this you are entering the work out mindset the instant you go to that spot. Clearly you don’t want to work out in the same spot you eat, sleep, or watch television. By minimizing distractions and other associations, it’ll be much easier to improve your workout routines and get yourself to work out to begin with.

If you don’t put all three together, you will not have the results you want. Getting ripped abdominals is a full-time job, so treat it as such.

It will help stabilize blood glucose levels, which in turn will lead to less cravings and appetite swings. It is important that you learn the difference in ideal carbs and undesirable carbohydrates. Forget the “bad” carbohydrates that you find in bread and various pastas. Instead, get your carbohydrate fix through fruits and vegetables.

The low fat method is probably the most popular and most utilized type of dietary change that people try. There are many benefits to lowering the amount of fat that you consume in your meals. Not only will it help you lose weight and control weight fluctuation, but it can also lower your cholesterol and lessen your overall risk of stroke and heart disease. This benefit is due to the elimination of saturated fats and trans fats.

One of the most important things that you can do to facilitate weight loss and overall health is to begin eliminating processed foods from your meals. This can be extremely difficult, especially since the majority of the foods available in grocery stores are processed for various reasons, including longer shelf life. Try to replace canned and packaged foods will fresh, green vegetables and fruits. This difficult but important step will go a long way in helping you reach your goals.

One very small change that may seem trivial is altering your meal schedule. Research shows that the classic “three meals a day” approach to eating is not the ideal method, especially for weight loss. Instead, opt for 5 or 6 smaller meals approximately every 3 hours or so. This will help you maintain blood sugar levels, control food cravings, and will keep your metabolism active for the majority of the day. An active metabolism is key to burning fat, so take this important step seriously.

There are numerous types of diets that are available for you to explore. Remember, however, that there are both benefits and drawbacks to all of these changes. Also remember that these changes will effect different people in different ways. For these reasons, it is vital that you have your health examined by a doctor and receive a medically qualified recommendation regarding which weight-loss method is right for you.
