The Constituents Of Food

Owen Jones | June 23, 2011

Unfortunately, not all foodstuffs are made equal which makes the task of the dedicated cook more problematic, because it means that the cook has to understand the dietary needs of humans at all stages of life, which foods can fulfill those requirements and, for normal families, within a finite budget.

Therefore, it is useful to know the constituents of food – that is, how much water, which vitamins, how much protein, fat and carbohydrate everything holds. If you know these proportions in each foodstuff, you can match them to your family’s needs, and also choose the right method of serving the food, because some means of preparation destroy some of these properties and so ought to be shunned.

It is feasible to cook very successfully for a family without knowing all these facts, but knowing them either by having learned from an older relative or by study makes success more certain. Let us take a look at the five most common requirements of all human beings, if not indeed all mammals.

Water is the largest component of human bodies and needs to make up the largest proportion of our intake as well. We are constantly using up our water content in evaporation, repair, replenishment and cleaning. Fortunately, there is also a great deal of water in a great deal of items that we eat, eg fruit, meat and fish, yet we still have to drink water to keep our fluid levels up. Dehydration kills.

Next in importance is mineral matter – that is vitamins and nutrients. It is not a problem to get this mineral matter, because plants suck it up from the ground and so, if you eat enough plant life, you ought to eat enough minerals. By plant life, I mean fruit, vegetables and fungi. Carnivores can consume a concentrated mix of plant life by eating meat, however lots of people have given up meat for one reason or another.

Different plant life has a different allotment and concentration of mineral. In general, cooking does not obliterate mineral content, yet over cooking can result in the mineral leaking out into the water they are boiled in.

Humans require protein to grow and repair themselves and a deficiency of protein is the foremost problem for vegetarians. It is not an insurmountable difficulty, but it is a worry. Carnivores get their protein from meat, fish and dairy. The process of cooking protein makes it more easily digestible for humans; dogs and cats do not have this requirement.

A great deal is talked about fat, but fat is a vital component of the human diet. A fat-free diet is not healthy for us, but the difficulty is that fat is simple to get, especially from junk food. Carnivores get most of their fat from meat, yet fat is not difficult for vegetarians, because there is fat in almost every sort of food, including nuts and grains.

Carbohydrates have also caused a lot of controversy (particularly with the Atkins Diet), yet carbohydrates are also a basic part of our diet. Again, it is not difficult to pick up all the carbohydrates that we need. Carbohydrates are most predominant in starches and sugars but there is no doubt that we should monitor our consumption of carbohydrates in the same way that we should with fats.

Owen Jones, the writer of this article writes on several topics, but is at present concerned with French dip sandwich recipes. If you want to know more or check out some great offers, please go to our website at Vegetarian Sandwich Recipes.

You Can Wake Up Your Brain by Using Focus Factor

Shawne M. Patrick | December 25, 2009

Focus Factor has been developed by a doctor and contains all natural ingredients to stimulate memory and supply nutriments the body wants. While Focus Factor has a broad range of vitamins and could take the place of a daily supplement, the combined ingredients specifically target nourishing the brain. Focus Factor provides support to help the individual concentrate and target tasks at hand.

The nutrient elements in Focus Factor and their sources are ‘the key’ to the formula that’s used in the supplement. The beta-carotene employed in Focus Factor is like what is present in fresh veggies. The vitamin E comes from the soybean and is not a manmade as is employed in other supplements. There are 6 different types of vitamin C. The magnesium employed in Focus Factor is derived from malate, as well as citrate and from taurinate. DMAE is a natural element found in fish and is one of the nutriments utilized in Focus Factor that targets brain function. Bacopa is a botanical extract, as is Huperzine, and they also are a part of the formula created to support focus and memory. Vinpocetine is another botanical extract that bolsters brain activity. Focus Factor doesn’t use caffeine or stimulants in its formula. Ephedrine and ma huang are also not included in the ingredients.

While Focus Factor assists in healthy brain function, people that are concerned with maintaining a high level of brain activity should also add fresh fruits and vegetables to their diet. Protein should be derived from high-quality sources, like chicken or fish. For the vegetarian, tofu is an excellent source of protein. Focus Factor is a supplement and can’t take the place of exercise.

Something as easy as walking for about 20 mins gets the circulation going and the blood flowing to the brain. Play games that exercise the mind or read a good book. Sleep is also very vital in brain function, and an individual should get eight hours a night. Focus Factor can help when there’s lack of sleep but cannot completely replace brain energy that is lost.

Even though Focus Factor begins to work as soon as it is in the system, it is advised that people stay on the suggested dosage for 30 days. Check with your doctor before adding Focus Factor or any vitamins or supplements to a daily regime. Women that are pregnant or are nursing shouldn’t take Focus Factor.

For additional data about Focus Factor, visit this quality site.

Juicing Can Save Your Life

Ellen Valentine, CNC | December 7, 2009

Is there a certain line of defense to engage when you are not well? Is it true that once you hit a certain age things begin to fall apart and youre at the mercy of a life of medication to keep organ systems going? Well, it will be true for you if you believe that. My job here though is to remind you that your body has the greatest potential for healing, and once you taste the triumph when Infinite Intelligence reverses an illness or condition, youll be empowered for life. Youll be invincible.

Everyone needs reminders. They come in the form of a good friend, a spouse, a mentor, a movie like the Secret or What the Bleep, a class or a book. The reminder is simple yet profound and that is that YOU ARE IN CHARGE. You can turn poor health around by going to the root cause of all disease: bad digestion. Bad digestion simply means youve run out of or are very low in digestive enzymes and minerals. Your job now is to eat whole, organic, take digestive enzymes every time you eat and combine your foods properly.

When denatured or mineral-depleted foods are the mainstay of the body, the body uses it’s supply of pancreatic enzymes to move a bolus of food through the body at any given time. As the body supply runs low food putrefies, disease sets in, the body has little or no energy to heal or restore homeostasis and a person finds themselves in a crisis.

The most intelligent line of defense in a crisis is to mineralize and rest the body. This point in a persons life can be a real blessing. It may change their life for the wonderful simply because of the marvelous miracles that they will experience. The idea is to eat as much organic raw as possible. Not only is juicing the most effective way to put minerals in and replenish, a juicer is the best pharmacy you can go to. And you dont have to be sick to juice. Mothers should be juicing every day for the healthy and vibrant future of their children.

There are some really tasty juice combinations. In our home we love carrots, a cucumber, a green apple, celery, spinach, fennel and watercress. The cucumber and green apple lend a lot of juice and cut any heaviness in the carrots and spinach. Carrots are rich in beta carotene, great for the immune system, spinach is rich in folic acid, vitamin E and a great blood builder, celery is rich in potassium, fennel great for the digestive system and cucumber promotes beautiful skin.

There are many great books on health food store and the Amazon shelves about juicing. Grab a few and use them until the pages look like the juices you’re making. Here are a few simple mixes I love: 1. Arthritis: handful of cherries, a handful of blueberries, and pineapple. Also try: pineapple, 6 carrots, and a handful of spinach. 2. Beautiful Skin: 2 Cucumbers, handful of parsley, 7 carrots, a green apple and kale, 3. Blood Building: 7 carrots, 1 beet with the greens and a handful of parsley. Add a green apple if you like. These three are only a taste of the many juice recipes you can play with. You will create many of your own favorites

Always use organics. To juice non-organic is to ingest an inordinate amount of pesticides in one or two gulps. Pesticides are oil based and most plants are sprayed (grapes) up to thirty times in a growing season. The oil base ensures water will not rinse it off. So juice organic and allow the fresh healthy juice to revitalize and mineralize your body.

As Earth Day is on our minds, take a stand for organic, both for fabrics and foods. Ask store owners to make sure that they do not stock genetically engineered, seedless varieties. Remember that the middle isles of stores contain lifeless food. Eat around the periphery of any store. And although you can have some lifeless in your diet; make 75% real and live food.

If you are healing, there are certain rules of thumb: it is better to not eat than to eat something that will throw the healing process back, drink lots of pure water every day, use only the freshest of everything you put in or on your body, make sure you eliminate several times a day, get lots of rest or meditation time, or both, have people you can trust to talk to, change the way you do things, eat every bite of food with gratitude and consciousness, help a friend, and love yourself above all else so you have more to give to others.

Gemstone Candle Holder Information

Jim Slate | November 28, 2009

Gemstone is a semi precious material that is most often used to make jewelry. However it can also be repurposed, many times, to create beautiful and exotic pieces of home dcor. One of the most popular decorative gemstone items out there are candle holders.

There are a wide variety of gemstones on the market, with each having very distinct properties and appearances. Some may have a very smooth, shiny, polished surface that reflects light in a million tiny points. Others may have a more rustic, rocky, weather beaten appearance. Still others will resemble caverns of crystals with an intricate latticework of transparent lines running through the belly of the material.

The appearance of the material will have an large impact on the function of the piece as a candle holders. Some of these materials are translucent, meaning they will let a filtered version of the candles glow leak out, others are opaque, meaning that the glow wont show at all, except for the flicker of the candle itself above the rim of the holder. Still others will be nearly clear, giving you a glass like perspective into the stone itself.

The surface of the material is also important. Some gemstones are smooth and polished, while others are rough and rustic, resembling the surface of a mountain, These two finishes will have vastly different effects when used in conjunction with a flickering candle.

Some common gemstones you might find being used in candle holders are materials such as agate, or amethyst, quartz, rose quartz, or even sodalite. Really any material which is not flammable and which can be shaped by a tool can be used for candle holders.

There are also often a number of different shapes and style available for these pieces. Some are made to hold candle sticks, while others are designed to hold tea light candles. Still others can be used to hold multiple candles, each one flickering in a line next to the others. The design you choose should reflect the space and style of the room where they will be used.

This article was written by Jim Slate on behalf of http://PebbleZ.com – retailers of a wide selection of stunning, natural decorative candle holders fashioned from a variety of semi precious gemstones. These pieces are attractive, functional, and unique, with each one looking slightly different from any other in the entire world.
