I made this page because I know a lot of people have the same main question as I did when I heard about mosquito plants. You hear about all the machines, chemicals, etc. to get rid of nature?s biggest pest, but still have the question.

Can mosquito plants take care of the problem?

Before looking at how effective it is, let?s understand the mosquito plant itself.

The mosquito plants has two main ingredients in it. Made from citronella grass and scented geranium, it gives out an odor that keeps the mosquitoes far away. These are sold right before the summer months across the world.

You need to decide on where you want to place these mosquito plants. Most people who use them say they are best utilized in a high-activity area. If you walk by them and brush up against them, the odor becomes more active and mosquitoes stay far away.

Bug sprays are usually made from chemicals, but rubbing the oil of the mosquito plant on you can act as a natural spray. The only thing I suggest though is you test to make sure you are not allergic to the product.

If you are planting a new mosquito plant, you want it to be in a place that is hot and dry. They can grow fairly large, and that makes the odor stronger for the mosquitoes so they stay away.

These mosquito plants are found in green houses and nurseries everywhere. You can pay as little as $5 for a young plant, or $50 for a mature one.

What You Want To Know About Aquaponics Systems

Bringing together the fields of both hydroponics, and aquaculture, aquaponics systems are increasing in popularity at a rapid rate. Taking all the best elements from soil less farming and the cultivation of fish, it is hoped that any negatives can be stripped out.

Aquaponics systems essentially work to cultivate plants and fish in an atmosphere that is conducive to the healthy development of both.

As with many traditional hydroponics systems; plants are grown in trays filled with gravel, whilst the fish continue to grow in regular tanks; as in aquaculture farms, and are given a diet of regular food. The water in the fish tanks is cycled through the plant trays.

Bacteria in the trays break down any waste products from the fish, providing them with essential nutrients. This water, now purified, is cycled back into the fish tanks.

A beautifully simple system, it has many benefits to both the fish and the plants.

For their part, the fish are healthier and resistant to infections and disease. As a result, they are also less stressed than those in aquaculture systems. It is thought that this is because of a lack of chemicals that leech into the water.

Plants tend to be healthier too; being bigger and producing increased crops. Again, this is down to the lack of artificial products used in their cultivation.

These are not the only benefits however; it is a far more cost efficient process to the farmer. There are no chemicals to buy of course; whilst plant food costs are all but eradicated. Soil borne disease is also not a problem; such is the nature of the farming.

More than this still though, is n the future of aquaponics systems. It is quite possible that such technology could be introduced on a huge scale throughout the developing world. This will help eradicate starvation and provide sustainable food sources for the planet as a whole.
