Let’s Talk A Little About Ab Exercises

I’m sitting here eating a huge plate of spaghetti and meat sauce and thinking to myself how great the whole combo tastes—-angel hair pasta, tomato sauce with green peppers, celery, onions and beef sauteed in it, and an overlay of grated cheese. Yummmm. And the next thought drifting through my hedonistic mind is, “I wonder what this meal is putting in my system as far as calories go, and will I have to increase my ab exercises just to take care of this meal.”

Okay—-so my conscience has a point; I am getting flabby in the midsection and I could use some stronger core muscles to look better, and the best way to do that, is to work out with a good battery of ab exercises. I do have a trainer, and I have been trying to stick to a routine that will benefit me the most because, from what I understand, there is nothing like a killer set of 6pack abs to reel in the chicks. And that’s not the only area that benefits from having strong core muscles; it also gives you better balance all over and helps with things like sports.

But all the girls seem to think that having a defined 6 pack in the abs area is a must, so I’m doing my darnedest to try and make something of those poor excuses for muscles that I have in that area. Ab exercises are a drag for the most part—-I have a medicine ball and I roll around on that and use it to do curls with and some dumbbells that I use for exercises too—-but I just can’t get into it.

The fact that the ab exercises that I’m talking about have to be done without fail 3-5 times each week is a downer in and of itself because I have never been good with sticking to routines—to me, that’s like living a regimented life, and I don’t like that. I really need to have someone in my life that cares about me and how I look, and maybe then I would show a little more concern about my midriff and get down to brass tacks and start doing the exercises for real. But until that happens, my midsection is on its own.

Most of the ab exercises I’ve read about or come across at the gym, are designed to be done 3-5 times a week and on a pretty regular basis. That means you have to set up some kind of a routine so that you can stick to it and get yourself to the gym or to your exercise area at home, whatever; and do it without fail, week after week. Doesn’t sound like much fun to me. Why do you have to dedicate so much time to exercising every week just to get fit.

I’ve been doing some thinking lately, and the thought occurred to me that I should start hanging around more with my friends that are eating the right stuff so they stay healthy, and they don’t seem to be exercising all that much or go to the gym, and they seem to be in pretty good shape. Maybe just being more with them will help, and if I follow the same patterns that they are, I can ditch these ab exercises and just hang out and look good.

I probably should go out and see if I can drum up a love interest and that would be enough to spark the desire to want to do ab exercises so I can finally get in shape and look like a million bucks for that special person in my life. That sounds like a plan—I need to think about that a little more and figure out just how I’m going to pull that off and where I should start looking. Meanwhile—I’m going to finish off this plate of pasta—it’s starting to get cold.

Burn Belly Fat The Quick Way

I often get asked, “What’s the best way to burn fat and lose my belly?” People want to know if aerobics is better than strength training, or if traditional cardio exercise is better than intervals.

It would be an understatement to say I have tried them all.

Using laboratory research and training for at least 15 years both for myself and sports I can tell you what exercises work and what don’t.

Time. Do you have it? For those of you who can’t spend 90 minutes per day exercising I want to talk to you.

That’s why there is a huge disconnect between some of the information found in magazines and the ability of the reader to apply it to their lives.

You don’t need 6-8 hours/week to exercise. Maybe if your goal is a triathlon you do. But for those of us trying to lose and tone there is still hope.

Therefore to get a better body, you need…

Use bodyweight exercises to warm-up, strength training supersets to build muscle, and then finish your workout with interval training to burn fat in a short amount of time. I’ve structured my system so that you are in and out of the gym in 45 minutes, three times per week.

Warm up using 5 minutes of bodyweight exercise. This will be much more effective than walking on a treadmill. Walking on a tread mill will only get you ready to walk more on a treadmill.

The next 20 minutes are going to be spent with strength training supersets. Use two exercises back to back with minimum rest in the middle. For this you will use basic exrcises and depending on your goal for muscle building possibly add more bodyweight exercises.

And finally, we’ll do 18 minutes of interval training. A warm-up, followed by six short intervals at the appropriate fitness level for the client, interspersed with short periods of low-intensity recovery. Finish with a cool-down. And that’s the workout. Again, about 45 minutes total.

That will be a much more effective workout than running, cycling, or a cardio machine for 45 min straight. Sure they all burn calories but they don’t build a better body.

In fact, there are a few “dark sides” to long slow cardio, including less-than-optimal results, the potential for overuse injuries, and it is an inefficient form of exercise. If you only have 30-45 minutes for your workout and you spend it all on a cardio machine, when are you going to train the rest of your muscles and sculpt a better body?

The best way to burn belly fat is fast and fun and it works using a combination of strength training and interval training
